The town of Port Alice is located on the shores of the picturesque shores of Quatsino Sound. Port Alice is on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, 54 kilometres from either Port Hardy or Port McNeill and is home to 820 permanent residents. 

Port Alice was first settled in the early 1900’s. Port Alice has always been a mill town and, at one time, there were three pulp mills operating in the area. The economy is also supported by commercial fishing, salmon hatcheries, and a growing tourism base. 

Known as the Gateway to the Wild West Coast, Port Alice has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast. There are many hiking, walking, and biking trails. Port Alice has one of the oldest and most challenging golf courses on Vancouver Island. There are caves to explore nearby. Port Alice and Quatsino Sound are renowned for the abundance of sealife which provides some excellent fishing, whale watching, and wildlife viewing opportunities. There is also boating, diving, and kayaking. Stroll along the wheelchair accessible sea wall and enjoy a picnic in the seaside park. Port Alice is a planned community. As such there is a fully equipped recreational complex that includes a hockey arena, curling arena, and an indoor swimming pool. 

There are basic services in Port Alice. There are churches, a school for grades kindergarten through grade 9, health clinic, bank, grocery store, liquor store, gas station, hardware store, and a library. There are restaurants, cafes, and pubs to choose from. A complete range of services one would require can be obtained in nearby Port Hardy or Port McNeill.
