" Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community. "

Anthony J. D'Angelo

Courtenay is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island in the heart of the Comox Valley. For thousands of years this valley has been home to the K’omoks and Pentlatch First Nations. The laid back City of Courtenay is home to 22,000 permanent residents.

Courtenay was settled in 1862. Logging and sawmills first appeared to clear the land for farmers. Eventually the majority of the logging industry was replaced with coal mines. The arrival of the railway line in 1914 from Victoria spurred growth in the Courtenay community. Twice the downtown core was destroyed by fire. The determination and perseverance of the early settlers to rebuild and thrive is still apparent today.

From its neighbouring Mount Washington to the shores of the Salish Sea, there is so much to see and do in Courtenay. Skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, golfing, horseback riding, boating, kayaking, and fishing to name a few. The Puntledge River that runs through Courtenay is a hotspot for paleontology discoveries. There are even guided fossil hunting tours. Maybe you will be the next one to make a major dinosaur discovery along the shores of the Puntledge River.

Courtenay is a thriving, growing city and served by no less than four airports! There are even two newspapers and two radio stations. There are galleries, museums, theatres, and art studios. Courtenay is a full service community with all levels of schools including the largest North Island College campus on Vancouver Island. Add to that the surrounding countryside with its farm gate sales, vineyards, and farmers markets and you have an ideal place to raise a family, retire, or grow your business.
